It's Fall in New York City

My sister has a beautiful, wonderful new apartment in Murray Hill. Complete with enough umbrellas to go around.

The Other Boo

Booboo said she wanted to be Darth Vader for Halloween so her folks were like, "ok, weird, hilarious.. you can be Darth Vader if you want" so they went looking around for costumes and ended up getting her one and when they brought it home she was like "what's that?" Haha it turns out she didn't really know who Darth Vader was, she just heard a kid at camp say that's what he was being. However she seems more than happy with it and makes a darn good intergalactic villain, don't you reckon? I mean the long hair is a really nice touch.

You Have to Make This

Alice Waters' Green Goddess Dressing!

• 1 small shallot, minced
• 1 clove garlic, minced
• 1 tablespoon white wine vinegar
• 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
• 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
• 1 large egg yolk, at room temperature
• 1/2 cup extra-virgin olive oil
• 1/2 ripe avocado
• 3 tablespoons chopped parsley
• 1 tablespoon chopped tarragon
• 1 tablespoon chopped basil
• 1 tablespoon chopped cilantro
• 1 tablespoon chopped chives (I used scallions)
• Salt and freshly ground pepper

1. In a small bowl, combine the shallot with the garlic, vinegar and lemon and lime juices. Let stand for 5 minutes.

2. In a medium bowl, beat the yolk with a whisk.

3. Gradually add half of the olive oil in a thin drizzle to the yolk, whisking constantly.

4. Add 1 tablespoon of liquid from the shallot mixture, then whisk the yolk mixture into the remaining olive oil.

5. Add the avocado and mash it in with a fork.

6. Whisk in the remaining shallot mixture and the herbs, and season with salt and pepper.
*It's easier to make with two sets of hands. Amazing on salad, or fresh vegetables like ripe heirloom tomatoes. Quick! Make it while there's still one last bit of summer in the air and at the market.

Kaleidoscope Eyes

Hi Nemo and Rachel. I love these photos. It's almost your first wedding anniversary! I hope I get to see you guys, come to Boston and have dinner with me! Doesn't that sound fun?

Farm Fun

When I first left school in 1999, I became a nanny for my then dentist, Cheryl. I didn't really know what I was doing, and Hannah was about 6 months old when I began taking care of her. I quickly got comfortable hanging out all day with a little person who couldn't walk, talk or feed herself, and it turned out to be an awesome experience, she was such a wonderful and curious baby. My mom used to say things like "she acts just like you did when you were a baby" which actually wasn't so strange, as our birthdays are only one day apart, and I guess you're a leo from the day you are born. I stayed with the family only for about a year and a half, until I moved back to New York. We have kept in great touch with each other, I visit Hannah who is now 10, and her little sister Booboo at least once a year on their beautiful farm in Maryland. What is so interesting is that now that Hannah is an age that I can remember being, she really is so much like me that it's uncanny. She hams it up in a major way, and almost every picture I have of her she is making some kind of silly face, which I was sort of known for my entire childhood. These photos were taken last summer, we had such a great time, Hansel never seemed more at home than on a farm running through expansive pastures... He was in heaven, that is, until he was kicked in the face by their donkey. I never knew, but a donkeys job in a pasture is to keep predator animals out.. foxes, coyotes, whatever. Hansel was a stranger to him, so the donkey just clocked him with his hind leg straight in the jaw from the side. My poor dog came rushing to me wimpering with a sad bloody face.. it split the whole inside of his jowl. Luckily he was ok, didn't break a tooth, and got over it pretty fast. He seems to really love the camera, huh? Well, there will be more from the farm soon, I'll be back there next weekend. Can't wait to see these faces again!
