LIghts Out

Happy Halloween! Pumpkin fun at Honor and Jamie's, with Megan and Hanburger. I think we did a pretty great job carving these guys and giving them some serious personality. (from left in the second to last pic: Jamie, Megan, Katie, Taryn, Honor).

Lazy Sunday

Katie and Megan, tartine scones and almond croissants, grapefruit juice and orange juice, french cheese and coffee, eggs and dijon mustard, heirloom tomatoes and strawberries, feasting and laying around for hours, baby names and Top Chef restaurant wars on TiVo, talking about a bunch of stuff but I can't tell you what. Ya' know?

The Alice Waters Tour

Darcy and I found ourselves in Berkeley after a graduate portfolio advisement event last weekend so on a whim I called the Chez Panisse Cafe to see about a last minute reservation.. We nabbed the only one they had, at 10:30 on Saturday night! By then they were unfortunately out of the pork dish with polenta and figs I dreamed of ordering, but we had the famed baked goat cheese and garden lettuces salad and it was superb, and pizzetta with Monteray Bay squid and marjoram. For dinner I ordered the chicken pillard with fried onions, little turnips and mustard, and Darcy went for the pan-fried halibut with peperonata, capers, green olives and meyer lemon. I have to say I was so tired that I about half remember the whole thing.. it was different than the restaurant, much less formal, and ordering off the menu made for more of a familiar restaurant experience, than waiting in anticipation for what's next to come on the prix fix. It was fun, and to top it off I also brought Darcy to cafe Fanny the next morning, but they were out of beneighs by 1:00.

Pumpkin Fun

Beau's jack-o-lantern from last year, which was and still is just absolutely brilliant.
I can't wait for pumpkin fun in 09 Friday night it's so on.

Rebel Without A Clue

Do you ever have the kind of day where you feel really proud of yourself as well as really ashamed at how long it took you to finally do the thing you are so proud of? Today I took care of a ten year old problem. Well, maybe it was a six year old problem. Either way, it was a problem way too old for how simple it ended up being to resolve.
Update: I found my lost passport, right after I gave up my Vancouver trip for Baltimore. I cannot even think about the amount of hours I looked for it, and it was in the most obvious place.

Personal Growth is a Beautiful Thing

Except for when growth means gaining 20 lbs and going up 2 dress sizes in less than a year. Could I have truly traded in my love of clothes for my love of food? I think I realized after my last post that it's true. i love eating more than I love being fashionable and skinny. Or at least, I care about it more.. somehow. Ewe oh my god, it's true. I must turn this around. I am open to any and all advice on how to maintain foodie status and still be clocked in anywhere under (x lbs). Also, I have always had a little belly and no ass but no matter what I always had my awesome long skinny legs to feel good about.. which out of nowhere are suddenly covered in a massive layer of cellulite! I went shopping today for close to 3 hours and didn't buy one thing but a pair of control top tights. A state of emergency is happening here... At least I can still see my feet. Also, it's personal so don't be offended. You are beautiful!

Let Me Entertain You

It's that time of year again, the fall, which is my absolute favorite season for cooking comfort food, having dinner parties and seeing friends! I am so excited. Fall foods are so fun to make and they are the best to dig into and share. Mac and Cheese, roasted vegetables like fennel and sweet potatoes, white chili and cornbread, (I'm getting very hungry) also this year I am going to attempt to make a cassoulet! It's just about the end of my fifth week of recruitment travel for work, in the bay area right now, not that I haven't been enjoying great meals (I had dinner the the Chez Panisse Cafe and a reservation tonight at FARM at the Canneros Inn in Napa). I am still thrilled to be coming home tomorrow. First order of business? Sunday brunch! Beau came up for the first half of my trip, so I didn't do much picture taking during then. Also I have had hours of driving almost every day this trip, so I'm really exhausted and looking forward to being in Los Angeles. See you soon.

K to the T

I can't wait to see Hanburger and the Slider (that's the baby burger).

The Gator

The gator is a John Deere hauling vehicle that Hannah loves to drive around the farm. She took Julie and I on a pretty wild ride, from which we have great video footage, I just don't know how to get it on the web... tips? Anyway, it's kind of wild to have a ten year old off-roading a truck with no seatbelts at warp-speed. Especially when you are a passenger!
