Drawring Party

I am home sick watching marathons of Top Chef and the Rachel Zoe Project and so basically what I'm saying is I have no life for the next few days. As such I am blogging memories. This was a great ladies dinner I had this time last year at my house that was super fun. I made really yummy and summery dishes from a Marc Bittman article in the NY times for Katie, Gail, Megan, Tiffany, Tanya and myself. Somehow I don't have pictures of all of them... But I want to do this again sometime soon.. I haven't seen Gail in ages! I was supposed to this weekend, but now that I'm sick I won't.. The swine flu really knocks you out. I feel really gross. Being this sick and having a fever in the heat is the worst. My friend Darcy is so awesome and yesterday she made me whole package of herbs and vitamins, teas and even flowers from her garden. And everyone is being so sweet and asking if they can bring me soup or magazines and I would love that more than anything but I basically have the modern plague and don't want to get anyone sick. So thanks everyone, I'll be back on the scene soon. Right now I need a shower in the worst way and food but I have no appetite. Love you!

Opening Night

First big night of openings in Los Angeles for the fall. Followed by, of course, drinks at Hop Louie. The juke box was so on (Debbie Gibson, Poison & Kenny Rogers just to name a few jems) and we were all singing and dancing at the table. People liked it, and I think were even inspired by our remarkable giddiness. Saturday Night!

Carpet is the New Cat

I love furry floors and globes and stuffed animals and four legged figurines and ArtForums and cooking magazines and my le crueset and fancy kitchen accessories in general and the Wedgewood and blue/green furniture and making pillows with ball fringe and ball fringe on anything and also I'm really trying to love my new laptop.

Back in Town!

Lorin and Sarah! My two very favorite summer out-of-towners. Three textoholics at one table! I am so happy these guys are back, even though I instant messaged them both almost every day since they've been gone. It's kind of amazing how friendships can build by talking on the computer all the time. Sarah, for those who do not know her, is a great little blogger and like one of the most beautiful girls in the world, yet she likes to cover her face with her hands every time I point my camera at her. It's too bad, cuz she really is a stunner and you are missing out by not being able to see her. It was also soon to be Lorin's birthday, which we finally got to toast at the stroke of midnight. He wasn't that excited about his birthday, he seems to think everything between 20 and 30 isn't really worth celebrating. Whatever, Lorin. Smile big and enjoy your 23rd year. Welcome back, you guys.. I missed you tons.

Oh No... I Am That Person

Self awareness is a very important thing, as is self control. I will admit that I often credit myself for possessing these gifts more frequently than I actuality do. I loose sight of what both of them mean everyday in a small but meaningful way and here is how: I am addicted to my phone. Talking, texting, emailing, web-browsing, google-mapping, whatever. I can do it all on my friend the iPhone, at any moment. For me, it's endless information, communication and joy at my fingertips. For you, friends and family, well it sucks, and I am so sorry. I realized over the past 4 days while in the company of dear friends, the phone is at the very least, within an arms reach 50% of the time.. It drives my parents crazy, and my sister too, and I'm sure my friends are just too nice to call me out, but how could it not bug you? There are some legit excuses, yes. One is, I am kind of almost always working in some way or another. Up until two weeks ago I only had one email, the one connected to my job. Two, is that when I am out with any of you I am (as you may have noticed) never with Beau and can easily become kind of a fixated on communicating with him.. it's complicated, you know? Three, is I have developed a nervous habit when I am out somewhere and not necessarily engaged in a conversation, I can socially withdraw by sinking into the comfort of the internet, of texting (which is so fun) and whatever else. These however are really not good excuses for my divided attention amongst dear friends. So here is my pledge to you. I am going to embark on a personal project of trying my very best to put the phone where it belongs while I am with you. Away. IN my bag, in my car, whatever. (My camera on the other hand, I'm sorry, that will be with me. :) I apologize for my lame phone addict behavior, it's bad, bad, bad. I am that person, and I hate it. Please, as my friends, correct me if you see me giving into the seduction of the 2 and a half by 4 inch color touchscreen.. Bring me back to life, to you, and I will appreciate you for it. Promise.

Coastal Access

Another school year has started, and though the Los Angeles sun will continue to shine down and the ground will be warm for months, it's the end of California summer 2009. It was good to me, and for once, seemed long enough. So long, summer.. see you next year.
