Baby Showers Bring Baby Flowers

I am busy planning 2 baby showers (thankfully with other people) and I really hope they turn out great cuz Katie and Megan deserve the best best best! When Mae was pregnant she didn't want a shower.. and I can't remember why. The irony though about me planning a shower is that I really don't like them or the ones I have been to, which have been almost all showers for aunts and cousins. People like cooing over baby stuff and playing weird games with chocolate melted in baby diapers and like weird stuff like that. And why do showers always have to be at like 10 or 11am on a Saturday? And is it cool to drink at a shower? Even though the guest of honor can't have any booze? Because basically when I am at a party, I really want to drink a cocktail. I think as I am getting older that I am having an allergic reaction to lots of traditions. I mean of course I love my friends and their fetal babies and real fresh born babies and growing babies and I want to scream from the rooftops how awesome and beautiful life is and share in their happiness.. I'm just not fired up about making hats out of giftwrap and measuring peoples stomachs and putting fake poop into tiny diapers. Call me crazy. And I know it's not about me, really I do, it's about the mom and the baby and them having a nice time.. But I believe a better time could be had with a baby shower structural revolution. All I'm saying is let's reinvent the baby shower for 2010. Ya' know? In any event, I hope to do a good job and I'm glad there are other people who actually know what to do helping or running the show. I just like to cook really good food and drink wine and have dinner parties. That's what I am good at. Here is a photo of my mother at my baby shower. Or her baby shower when she was having me. And a photo of my dad too, circa mid-1970's. (I arrived in August of 1977). My parents were pretty darn cool, huh?
